JD Welsh Premier League
12.01.19 | 7:30pm

Saturday evening will see Connah's Quay Nomads play out the final game of phase one of the JD Welsh Premier League as we travel to Richmond Park to take on Carmarthen Town.

We head into the game one point clear of Barry Town United and two points clear of TNS in third following our 6-1 thumping of Aberystwyth Town last Friday night at Park Avenue. The Old Gold come into the game having missed out on top six football for the second half of the season, currently sitting ninth in the table, one point about tenth-placed Cefn Druids, for whom Jack Kenny this week left Deeside to join.

Our most recent visit to Richmond Park was in October 2017 where a dramatic late winner gave The Nomads all three points. It was a game which saw Ryan Wignall score early on for The Nomads before a much-contested penalty was awarded to Carmarthen which Liam Griffiths slotted home. The game looked to be heading for a draw until Ryan Wignall flashed a ball across the face of the Carmarthen goal and Melford Simpson bundled the ball in to the net in the 87th minute to secure all three points.

Our last encounter saw a 3-1 victory at Deeside Stadium earlier this season in a game where Wignall was again on the scoresheet, this time accompanied by Jay Owen and Andy Owens.

Ahead of the game, Andy Morrison said; "We head to Carmarthen in great form having scored 10 in our previous two games and looking a real threat every time we get near the opposition goal, but anyone who knows me would tell you I'd always take a 2-0 win over a five or 6-1 win - I've always seen clean sheets as the key ingredient to success over a season.

Carmarthen have shown on many occasions this season that they can score goals and win games of football, so the standards we have set and me for the majority of the season will need to be met again on Saturday night if we are to stay at the top of the league."

The game kicks off at 7:30pm and will be covered live on our Twitter feed as always.
