The Nomads

Irn Bru Cup
13.10.18 | 7:35pm

Saturday's game sees a first for Connah's Quay Nomads as we host our first ever Irn Bru Cup game at Deeside Stadium.

The game sees The Nomads, winners of the 2018 JD Welsh Cup take on Coleraine, who won the Tennents Irish Cup in the same month.

This is our third outing in the competition having previously lost out to Dumbarton last season before knocking Falkirk out of the competition earlier this season to advance to today's game. Our opponents Coleraine had to overcome Formatine United on penalties after their game ended in a 1-1 draw.

The side from Northern Ireland come into the game on the back of their first defeat of the season, a 4-1 loss at the hands of current league leaders Glenavon - a result which saw the Bannsiders drop from third to fifth in the league table.

The Nomads come into the game in a rich vain of form and Andy Morrison will be looking to continue our recent run of form which has seen victories over Newtown, Llandudno, Carmarthen, Airbus and Cardiff Met in succession, scoring an impressive 18 goals in the process and conceding just four.

Ahead of the game, Morrison said "Everyone connected with the club is looking forward to tonight's game with Coleraine. Having watched hem at close quarters and looked through video footage, we know we are in for a massive challenge.

Before their defeat last weekend to league leaders Glenavon, they were unbeaten in 33 games which is a remarkable achievement at any level.

I'd like to say we are going to enjoy the occasion, but that's not what I am about or my team - I've never enjoyed losing no matter how well we've played, so we're going into the game to win it - we need to be brave and ask question of a very fit, aggressive team and that is exactly what we will do."

Morrison concluded by saying; "After the victory over Falkirk, we are confident and know that if we are at the top of our game and things gall for us, it will take a good team to stop us."

Coverage The match will be covered live on S4C from 7:30pm with the game kicking off at 7:35pm and as always we will be providing minute-by-minute coverage on our social media channels.
