Nomads goalkeeper John Rushton speaks out

Date Published: Monday, 13th August, 2012 - 10:08pm

John signed for Nomads in summer 2011 from West Cheshire League Division 3 team Manor Athletic. In the pre season games and initial league matches, John was our back-up keeper, but by the end of September 2011, he had made the number one shirt his own and he has played in virtually every Nomads game since then.

Since joining Nomads, 22 yr old Johns’ rate of improvement has been so rapid, that at least one Nomads’ official believes that he will attract the attention of pro clubs in the not too distant future.

We caught up with John today for the following question and answer session:

Q. How has the pre season training been for you, in terms of match fitness, quality of opposition and as a preparation for the WPL season?

A. Yes, pre season has gone well. The teams that we have played have all been a good standard and that will stand us in good stead ahead of the new season.

Q. How well do you think Nomads will do in the WPL this coming season and what are your personal hopes and targets?

A. Obviously it's massive step up from last season, but with the players we have and the players that we have brought in, we definitely have the quality to do well. Personally I hope I can continue my form from last season.

Q. Do you have any interests or hobbies outside of football?

A. I'm interested in all sports. But going to watch my friends play when we haven't got a game is always good.

Q. What is your sense of humour like? Tell us the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you?

A. Away from football I'm quite a quiet lad. Most of the funniest things have happened in work. The lads are always playing pranks on each other.

Q. Which is the Nomads game that you played in, that stands out most for you, and why?

Q. There's a few. My first one stands out, but it's got to be between last seasons Rhyl game at Deeside and the Cefn Druids game which won us the league title.

Q. Is there anything that you would like to say to or about our supporters?

A. Yes. Please keep turning up to the games and supporting the lads in every game that we play this season. This will help us a lot. Thanks.

Q. Who has been the biggest influence on your football career, so far?

A. Probably my mum & dad. They have always encouraged me to well in everything I've done.

Thanks for taking the time John and we hope you have a great season.
