Nomads held to stalemate at Airbus as pre-season heats up

Connah’s Quay Nomads may not have been as prolific as they were against Denbigh Town last week, but a first clean sheet in pre-season still gave manager John Disney plenty of positives against Airbus UK Broughton.

In our first pre-season friendly away from home, Chris Marriott continued to captain the side, while pacy attacker Jayden Tang and young goalkeeper Ryley Berry both made their first starts of the new campaign.

The Nomads came agonizingly close to taking the lead after just three minutes played in Broughton as Jason Oswell’s towering header from Declan Poole’s deflected cross was denied by the woodwork.

Berry then proved his worth in between the sticks by pushing away a couple of dipping efforts from Airbus full-back Kieran Evans.

Oswell went close in the air again towards the end of the first half as he headed inches wide from Chris Marriott’s teasing corner.

There were 10 new introductions after an hour played in the second half, including new signing Eddie Survets, who impressed in his trial for the club by scoring five goals in two games against Denbigh and Mold.

Survets showed promising signs with his work off the ball, but Airbus remained compact in defence, and ultimately no breakthrough was to be found despite the Nomads’ dominance in attack in the closing stages.
