Abdi Signs New Nomads Deal

Connah’s Quay Nomads are delighted to announce that Somali International midfielder, Abdi Sharif has signed a new deal at the club.

Abdi joined The Nomads this past summer and has impressed in his appearances in midfield for the club so far, making nine competitive appearances for the club so far this campaign.

Abdi’s first competitive fixture for the club was against Colwyn Bay in the live televised opening game of the season, which was watched by the Somalia Head Coach and ultimately earned him his recent call ups for Somalia’s recent FIFA Arab Cup and World Cup qualifiers.

Abdi featured in two separate camps for the Ocean Stars as they would ultimately lose out on penalties to Oman in the final qualifying game, but in the fixture prior, he would be a part of the team that would help the side pick up their first international victory in six years as they defeated Bahrain 2-1.

On securing the new deal for Abdi, John Disney commented; “Since the very first day of pre-season Abdi has shown his undoubted quality, athleticism and professionalism. He is somebody that shows moments of quality that very few outside of the Football League possess.

He’s a fantastic person that we all love working with and is an individual part of an extremely strong squad here at the club that we managed to build in the summer and with the support of the club and owner not just for this season but for the upcoming years means we are delighted that Abdi has committed his future at Connahs Quay Nomads whilst being on the radar of many others outside the league.

Abdi was excited to join the club after our first conversation on how the club’s Hybrid programme would work. The added group, and in particular individual sessions, lead by our specialist individual coach Jack helped his strong start to the season.

Abdi rightfully got the recognition that we knew he could get and with the amount of high profile international games Abdi has played for Somalia so far this season alongside some small injuries in between that has meant that we have managed to go on a fantastic run even without a player of Abdi’s quality in the squad and we are extremely excited to welcome Abdi back with us in December ready to go as we as a squad push to reach our aims for the season.”
