New Signing: Chris Renshaw

Connah’s Quay Nomads are delighted to announce the signing of 28-year-old goalkeeper Chris Renshaw.

Renshaw joins the Nomads from National League North side Southport, where he made over 150 appearances in a three-year period, with his accolades including the club’s 2024/25 Player of the Season award. Renshaw made 40 appearances for Southport in the English sixth tier this past season, keeping seven clean sheets during that time.

This will be Renshaw’s first taste of Welsh football having spent his academy years at Everton and Oldham Athletic before other spells with Witton Albion, Halifax Town and Curzon Ashton.

The goalkeeping position at Connah’s Quay Nomads has been pivotal to our success in recent years, with notable names Kit Margetson, George Ratcliffe, Andy Firth and Ollie Byrne all helping the club reach Europe, lift trophies and play in cup finals.

Renshaw said: “I’m really happy to sign here. Once I spoke to the gaffer, I could feel his intensity to improve and most importantly win, which is very similar to myself, so I am delighted to get this over the line.

It’s a new challenge for me with it being a new league, but it’s one I’m really looking forward to and will give everything I can for the club!”

First Team Manager John Disney added: “I am extremely excited by the signing of Chris, a player I was really keen to bring into the club and get to work with.

Chris is a highly regarded goalkeeper who has played in the English non-league system and somebody that holds a real presence when speaking to him but more importantly when on the training and match pitch.

Chris is a fantastic shot stopper and very strong at claiming crosses. He is a real leader and organiser which will be massive for us moving forward. Alongside his playing responsibilities Chris is also a Goalkeeper coach with Blackburn Rovers and is extremely well-regarded in that role. With that, Chris is already helping and developing some of our younger goalkeepers at the club.

Chris was very well sought after with a number of clubs in the Welsh system trying to get his signature but thankfully due to footballing reasons Chris decided to sign with ourselves and I am sure he is someone that will make a huge difference to us as a football club. We have always had good goalkeepers at Connah’s Quay Nomads, and after the development of Kit Margetson last season, I am confident Chris will be the next name on that list.”
