gap Connah's Quay Nomads netted six goals in a game for the fourth time this season to maintain their stunning 100% record at the top of the Huws Gray Alliance.

Fellow high-flyers Caersws were the victims this time, as Mark McGregor's men made it seven wins out of seven with a 6-2 success on Deeside.

In what was billed as a close match-up, Csersws created the first opening inside the first two minutes when frontman Mark Griffiths found space on the right side of the penalty area, but scuffed a tame low shot into the side-netting.

The deadlock only lasted a further three minutes as Gary O'Toole struck his seventh league goal of the campaign on the five minute mark.

The Nomads number ten was played in down the right side, and held off the opposing defender to squeeze a shot inside visiting 'keeper Alex Ramsay's near post from a tight angle.

Nomads used the early opener as a springboard to take the game to the opposition, with Rob Jones in particular flashing a couple of long range efforts over and wide.

The best chance to double the lead came midway through the half when Tom Baker's exsquisite through ball released O'Toole into the area but he was denied by a fine save by Ramsay's outstretched leg.

That was to prove costly when Caersws levelled the scores on 35.

Richard Evans found space on the left flank to jink into the Nomads' area, before chipping into the six yard box from a tight angle where Griffiths chested the ball over the line.

Caersws were in the ascendency and Griffiths had a glorious chance to double his tally minutes after the equaliser, but saw his thumping goalbound header brilliantly diverted behind by Terry McCormick's right leg.

With half time approaching, Nomads pushed forward to regain the lead and did so in controversial circumstances three minutes before the interval.

A free kick from the right was cleared only to Danny Forde who lofted a pass into the area, where centre back Andy Alston was found unmarked and with time to pick his spot to slot beyond the 'keeper.

The Caersws players and management were incensed that an offside flag had not been raised - by the same official who had frequently flagged a number of Nomads' attacks throughout the first half.

The visitors' complaints were waved away, however, and Nomads went into the break 2-1 in front.

The second half started as the first, with both defences holding firm and both sets of forwards struggling to find a break-through.

That was until a stunning five-minute spell midway through the half that saw the hosts' kill the game off with three quick-fire goals.

The introduction of Alan Hooley and Jamie Petrie, in place of Rob Jones and Danny Forde, brought a switch to 4-4-2 and gave the home a fresh attacking look, with Petrie and Tom Baker covering the wings.

Nomads used the tactical shift to their full capacity when first, on 66 minutes, Michael Hayes found space inside the box to fire into the bottom corner for 3-1.

Then, less than 60 seconds later Hayes turned provider with a right-wing cross that picked out unmarked strike-partner O'Toole on the edge of the area, and he was on hand to shuffle goalwards to beat a tame attempt by the opposition 'keeper to deny him his second of the game.

Two minutes later, it was four. This time a deep corner was punched clear by Ramsay but only as far as Baker, who cracked a first-time shot from all of 25 yards that flew into the far side of the goal.

With the 'smash and grab' job done in such fine style, Nomads could afford to relax - even when Caersws pulled it back to 5-2 through a Neil Mitchell header with a little less than ten minutes remaining.

Typically, though, it was left for the home side to have the final word with three minutes left on the clock.

Substitute Dean Thurston, who had earlier replaced O'Toole, held the ball up on the edge of the area and an eventual cross was directed to three white shirts at the far post.

It was Petrie rose highest to crash in a header to complete the scoring.
