Deeside Stadium, Connah's Quay | Attendance: 0

Neath's bright start at Porthmadog was followed by the bitter taste of defeat at Connah's Quay, but they did enough to suggest they will be no pushover in their first season in the top flight.

The Nomads' return to Deeside after a 12-month enforced absence also marked the return of former Tranmere starlet Adam Dickinson, and he made an immediate impact with a superb 20-yard strike which gave keeper Craig Morris no chance.

But within minutes he was forced to retire with a recurrence of a knee injury and the Eagles were then given an immediate chance to get back into the game when Chris Williams bundled over Lee Bevan in the box.

Jarrod Price took the spot kick, but keeper Paul Pritchard blocked his effort and the visitors were never able to threaten the former Canaries' stopper from open play.

Any hopes of at least snatching a point were ended by a dubious penalty award 12 minutes from time when Bevan was ruled to have impeded John McAllister and penalty specialist Williams made no mistake with his opportunity to maintain the Nomads' 100% start to the campaign.
