Hapless Connah's Quay were blown away by Carmarthen - and Tim Hicks in particular - in an amazing opening at Richmond Park.

Nomads trailed 6-0 after just 24 minutes, with Hicks claiming a hat-trick inside six minutes. The Old Gold went on to equal their best-ever winning margin in the Welsh Premier and it was the visitors' biggest-ever league defeat.

In scoring five for the second time in his career, Hicks also broke Carmarthen's individual scoring record for goals in a match.

Danny Thomas started the goal spree in the fifth minute with a 10-yarder after defender Tom Baker headed the ball straight into his path.

Hicks then enjoyed the freedom of the penalty box, running through defenders to strike and 18-yarder, before completing his threesome with two close range headers.

A looping ball forward found Thomas who lobbed keeper Paul Pritchard for the fifth, with a breakout from defence providing the sixth for Hicks from Jamal Easter's cross.

Nomads' John McAllister did hit the bar with a header on the stroke of half-time and Chris Melia forced a good save from Neil Thomas on the resumption, but normal service was soon resumed.

Easter twice hit the woodwork, with Thomas firing his spot kick against a post after Pritchard had brought down Hicks.

Easter finally got on the scoresheet in the 76th minute before again hitting the woodwork, with Hicks following up to beat Pritchard for his fifth goal.
