A 24th-minute Martin Rose penalty handed the spoils to Port Talbot against a disappointing Connah's Quay.

Alan Hooley brought down Scott Barrow in the box and Rose made no mistake for his 15th goal of the season to stay top of the Steelmen's goal chart.

Sam McNutt and Chris Herbert were guilty of squandering chances for the Nomads, while Mark Cadwallader's scorching 20-yarder went just wide of Josh Payne's upright.

Lee John should have settled any Talbot nerves in the 76th-minute, but fired over the bar from 15 yards when clean through and the miss could have proved costly as John McAllister beat two visiting defenders to cross for McNutt, whose diving header was well saved by Payne.
