Cefn Druids AFC vs Connah's Quay Nomads
Tuesday 26th September 2006 | 7:30pm
The Rock, Cefn Mawr | Attendance: 0
CONNAH'S Quay became the first side to reach the last eight as they maintained their 100% group stage record at Plas Kynaston.
Debutante Steve Forbes, signed from Archer FC last week, came off the bench to send a close range header past Druids' keeper Carl Edwards on 77 minutes for the only goal of the game.
But despite the defeat, a depleted Druids had competed well and created the better openings, especially in the second-half.
New signing Michael Burns headed across goal for Colin Quirke to force a great save from Nomads' keeper Paul Smith, while Mike Heverin failed to connect with an Osian Jones flick with the goal at his mercy.
Heverin then found himself one-on-one with Smith but was unable to defeat the former Rhyl stopper and, when a long throw from the right caught the Druids' defence flat-footed, Forbes was on hand to take the spoils and end the home side's hopes of further progress.
