ABERYSTWYTH edged a dour game at Park Avenue in their first league action for nearly five weeks.

Gavin Allen fired the 106th goal of his Welsh Premier League career, finding the back of the Connah's Quay net via the post with a speculative 20-yarder past Craig Bryan.

Allen headed narrowly wide from a corner and Glyndwr Hughes fired over the bar after being set up by Sion Meredith.

Nomads found it difficult to break out and their first real chance came five minutes before the break when Tommy Mutton forced a save from home keeper Lewis Solly.

Bryan was in early second-half action, blocking an Allen shot but it was Solly who prevented further scoring with a brilliant 81st-minute save at the feet of Mutton before turning a Gareth Owen header from close range around the post.
