MUCH of the action at Deeside Stadium took place in the first and last minutes of the game as Porthmadog produced a late winner to stun the Nomads.

Connah's Quay got a dream start when Port defender Richard Owen was involved in a misundertanding with keeper Gerard McGuigan and Tommy Mutton nipped in to score after just 12 seconds.

But Viv Williams' men had the last laugh in injury time when last substitute Aled Rowlands struck a 20-yard free kick past Craig Bryan for the winner.

Despite torrential rain, both sides created plenty of chances with returning striker Carl Owen prominent for Porthmadog. But when the visitors equalised on the half-hour it was Tony Williams who drove home a 20-yarder.

George Horan had a long range effort for Nomads after the break with Mutton seeing a shot cleared off the line after he had combined well with Darren Williams.

Tony Williams missed a good opportunity for Port as he beat the off-side trap only to be denied by Bryan.

A close range header from Darren Williams was well saved by McGuigan before Rowlands' late show gave Porthmadog a decided advantage for the second leg.
