Nomads were left facing a difficult midweek replay in Port Talbot after the Welsh League side held on for a 1-1 draw in the Welsh Cup 3rd Round tie. On a heavy pitch, Nomads were guilty of trying to play too much stylish football and paid the penalty. Steve Futcher scored Nomads' goal three minutes before half-time, turning on a pass from Andy Thomas before cracking an unstoppable shot past Matthew Norris.

Within eleven minutes of the restart, however, Goytre were level, Hugh Davies cutting inside Smyth and burying is shot in the net. The visitors carved out other openings although Nomads had their chances too. The game's most controversial incident occurred in the second period when referee Parry turned down penalty appeals after Goytre's Robert Williams clearly handled the ball in the box. Neville Powell threw on Stuart Rain and Neil Davies in a bid to grab a winning goal and avoid that replay but to no avail.
