The Nomads are pleased to announce the signing of 21 year old Paul Mooney.

Paul joins The Nomads from Northwich Victoria following a spell on trial with Swindon Town having come runner up in the Samsung "Win a pro contact" competition.  Paul joined up with then Swindon manager Paulo Di Canio at the clubs training break in Lake Garda, Italy, before Di Canio chose not to offer him a full time contract.

Di Canio had this to say about Mooney; “I have to honest, he’s a good guy, he has good quality as a centre-half – elegance, technique – but we are searching for a different player.”

Paul's performance for Rhyl in the 2010-11 season were outstanding and he caught the eye of a number of football league scouts including Crewe Alexandra where he spent a period on trial.

Director of Football Mark McGregor commented; "I've been very impressed with Paul since our rivalry with Rhyl two years ago, and I've kept tabs on him ever since.  He's got a left foot like a wand, and he's fitted in straight away with the lads - we've got a serious threat from set pieces now as well."

Paul took part in both of The Nomads games against Goole and Pontefract this weekend, and having settled in quickly, The Nomads new number 15 said, "I'm delighted to join The Nomads and am really looking forward to the new season.  I've fitted in great with all the lads considering I've only know them all a couple of days, and I think we'll do well over the season playing the type of football Macca wants us to play."
